& Multimedia Journalist

    ABOUT BENJI KAUFMAN

Benji Kaufman is in his final year at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, studying journalism. Passionate about sports and news reporting, he thrives as an anchor, reporter, live broadcaster and graphic designer, with strong skills in video editing and design. Kaufman brings a unique blend of on-camera presence, field reporting, and creative visual production to his work. With hands-on experience across multiple areas of journalism, his dedication to delivering impactful, visually engaging stories sets him apart. Whether reporting from the field or crafting dynamic visuals behind the scenes, Kaufman is driven by a passion for telling the stories that matter in sports and news. Kaufman interned with Prince Georges Community TV in the summer of 2025. In the fall, he will serve as an on-air broadcaster and reporter for Capital News Service, a student-powered news organization run by the University of Maryland Philip Merrill College of Journalism.

    TERRAPIN SPORTS CENTRAL

Benji Kaufman has steadily worked his way up at Terrapin Sports Central, a student-run media outlet dedicated to covering University of Maryland athletics. He began his TSC journey as a freshman working as a crew member and quickly established himself as an on-air presence with early reporting experience. By his sophomore year, Kaufman was named Creative Video Director, taking charge of designing graphics and producing dozens of hype videos across a wide range of Maryland sports. In his junior year, Kaufman expanded his role further—anchoring several times for The Left Bench, TSC’s flagship weekly studio show that highlights Maryland athletics through features, highlights, and original segments. He continued to lead content creation for TSC’s Instagram and X platforms, and he also wrote, shot, and edited a longform enterprise story on sibling athletes at Maryland, combining reporting and visual storytelling to showcase his skills beyond daily coverage. Now entering his senior year, Kaufman serves as Creative Content Director for TSC, overseeing the organization’s visual identity across all platforms. In this role, he continues to lead TSC’s creative direction—developing graphics, editing hype videos, and driving a consistent and engaging social media presence. Kaufman’s commitment to combining sports journalism with design and multi-platform storytelling has gave him great experience in the field of broadcasting.

    PRINCE GEORGE'S COMMUNITY TV (PGCTV)

During the 2025 summer, Benji Kaufman spent eight weeks as a news intern at Prince George’s Community TV (PGCTV), a long-standing local news station serving Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties. While his official title was intern, Kaufman functioned as a full-fledged news reporter— pitching, writing, and editing stories under tight same-day deadlines. Over the course of the internship, 12 of his stories aired on television, covering topics ranging from county government to community sports leagues. Working in a fast-paced, professional newsroom, Kaufman filed multiple stories a day, conducted interviews, selected soundbites, and cut footage for the daily afternoon newscast using Adobe Premiere Pro. On non-air days, he still stayed active—writing scripts, gathering interviews, and collaborating with assignment editors to maintain PGCTV’s broadcast standards. The experience sharpened his on-camera presence, news writing, and editing under pressure, giving him a deep appreciation for local news and proving his versatility beyond sports.

    BIG TEN PLUS, STUDENT U

Benji Kaufman has contributed across multiple live production roles for Maryland Athletics broadcasts through BTN’s StudentU program, which offers hands-on experience in sports television production. As an on-air talent, he served as a play-by-play announcer for Maryland softball on Big Ten Plus, providing live analysis, narration, and real-time context for viewers. For each broadcast, Kaufman prepared detailed multi-page documents with statistical and biographical information on both teams to ensure informed coverage.

In addition to his on-air work, Kaufman has experience as a scorebox operator for Maryland baseball, managing the live score graphics during broadcasts. He has also worked as a camera operator for men’s soccer broadcasts, focusing on framing, anticipating plays, and maintaining steady visuals in live settings.
